NOTE

BATMAN IN THE SEVENTIES

After I finished reading the Post-CRISIS adventures of Superman and Wonder Woman in early 2019, I decided to stick with DC and visit what is, in my mind, the definitive era for the third member of DC's so-called "Trinity". Thus a journey through Batman's adventures in the 1970s! Unlike many of my review projects, this one doesn't cover a specific run of issues or follow a particular creative team. Instead, it's a "curated" look at Batman in the seventies, using whatever material is available in my various Batman collected editions.

  1. I really enjoyed reading your curated collection of Bat-seventies stories..I'm sure you've seen it already, but just in case, issue 1 of 5 Star Super-Hero Spectacular (1977) has a Batman tale that seems to be the essence of the seventies, a James Bond style Alps sequence, the Lazarus pit, even a reverse swipe of Neal Adams full page Bat pic (the missing belt panel). Definitely worth a look if you haven't seen it. Particularly for the odd/crotch shot opening splash page. Written by

    1. Thank you! I don't think I was aware of this story, but I will definitely try to track it down!

    2. I recall devouring that one-shot (well, it kicked off DC Special Series, an umbrella title for… basically an irregular string of one-shots) during the summer of ’77. Dollar Comics were my jam and Mike Nasser/Netzer’s art on the Batman story (reworked from what would’ve been an issue of Kobra before that book got canceled) was pretty sweet, not as polished as Neal Adams (who provided the awesome cover) but with more character in a way.
